More than 30 years ago, it was 1971, John Lennon wrote:
Imagine there's no heaven (..)
No hell below us
above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...
Imagine there's no countries (..)
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...
Imagine no need for greed or hunger (..)
A brotherhood of man (..)
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world (..)
Some said he was a dreamer. But then, was he the only one? Was it not also in the imagination of President Franklin D. Roosevelt who, in January 1942 was the first to use the expression "United Nations", almost 30 years earlier than Lennon’s song? Now, a little over 60 years later, we have the possibility due of the invention of the internet to achieve these same dreams. I hope someday you'll join us and the world will live as one.
In a way we present to you this project from the same perspective as John Lennon had in mind. A difference between our project and his work is that he proclaimed ‘his message’ -not only in Imagine but in many more songs such as Power to the People, Revolution and Give Peace a Chance- and let us make the choice whether we would follow or prefer to remain in isolation. For this he is not to blame for there was no possibility other than just to write, record and publish. Now, 30 years later, because of the Internet, the only non-resemblance is that we can give humanity an active role by collaboratively creating globally with the help of all those who have access to the internet, now over 580 million and with an estimated 2 billion by the year 2010. ‘Has a dream come true?’
Our plans have not been consciously selected to promote any one city, country or continent but are focused on promoting the world as a whole, as one "United Nation". The plan focuses on ‘Global Issues’ using projects such as ‘Global Peace’, ‘Global Water’, ‘Global Democracy' and ‘Global Health’ and there will be subsequent projects, such as ‘United Environment’ (2006) and ‘United Through Globalization?’ (2008) and other global issues (2010 and after).
Each two years, on 24 October, we hope to celebrate United Nations Day with all those who have written the opera’s with a ‘Live Aid and Net Aid’ performance of one of the operas from podiums in a diverse number of cities throughout the world. Should John Lennon have still been alive, we would have asked him to become ‘Patron’ of the whole project and a ‘Mentor’ of the Global Peace project.
We hereby present
"The Virtual (Rock) Operas" ©
or
"A Diversity of 'Operas' on Global Issues"
All created between 2003 - 2010 by the people of the world via the internet
"What unites people more than those who are able to create art together?"
'For those who create art together, see no boundaries between nations, experience no cultural or political differences'
The Virtual Operas is the initiative of Foundation VRO of the Netherlands with the intent of creating 1, 10 or 100 Opera's via Internet with an active participation by persons of the world, united creatively via the world-wide web.
Simply, everyone who has access to the internet can assist in composing the operas, defining the true essence of the term "Virtual" as A United Nation
Even at this moment, positive reactions have been received from private persons, businesses and organisations from the international community who are willing to assist in driving the project forward. Among the afore-mentioned are: The city's of Delft, Rotterdam, Amsterdam of the Netherlands, London and Liverpool; Orchestras and international broadcasting companies from The Netherlands, Italy, Great Britain and Korea.
The project is becoming a movement, a link between Global Health, Global Peace, Global Environment, Global Democracy etc. All this, while people exchange their thoughts through the internet, in a peaceful artistic way. At least it seems to be? Even though we do not generate the same amount of people as the 'The Cluetrain Manifesto' does, we, from our part, have not yet done our best to establish such. We will start to generate and attract a large audience once the NPC-platform (A Network-Project and Communication Plafform) is finished in 2003 and we will continue to do so up until at least 2008/2010 (and hopefully for many more years beyound).
If you personally, your company, organisation or institution is interested to participate, to donate, to adopt one of the programs or you would want to receive more information on how you can help people become part of this total experience in ambient intelligence and ambient culture, please contact us by E-mail:

Donations
Donations are welcome. 'Of course' you'll probably say, 'But what do I get in return?' The answer is straight and simple, in the beginning not much. Only -if you wish- then we'll mention you on this website together with the reasons why. But furthermore that you'll be remembered for at least up until 2010 for the fact that you donated in the past, on the towards future upcoming website, the NPC-portal.
Those of you who have donated and who want the world o know can mention this in the 'Donation' or 'Adoption' E-mail. For example: I have given a donation because....?:
'I sympathise with the Prince of the Netherlands on the 'Water' issue';
'I sympathise with Bono on the 'Humanity' issue';
'I sympathise with everything 'The United Nations' stand for';
'I simply sympathise with the philosophy of the total 'VRO' project'; etc.
